Through our partnership with ANIMASYROS – the International Animation Festival taking place from 21 to 27 September 2026 – we invite you to embark on a journey with us to the wonderful world of animation that springs to life every year in Syros, the capital of the Cyclades. This year, the festival programme focuses on the theme of 200 Years of Hermoupolis, celebrating the anniversary of the historic founding and naming of Syros’s capital in 1826.
The 19th edition of ANIMASYROS programme includes seven competition sections, special tributes, the Agora – a key reference point for the animation industry in the Eastern Mediterranean – educational workshops, a VR lounge, parallel events, as well as new international and local collaborations.
This year’s Country of Honour is Ireland in recognition of the Irish animation scene which combines a strong and long-standing tradition with impressive contemporary momentum and has emerged in recent years as one of the most creative and dynamic in Europe.
In collaboration with Animation Ireland, the festival presents a tribute featuring screenings of feature-length and short animated films by contemporary Irish creators, round tables within the Agora and a major networking event.
Empowering Your Local Industry – Panel Discussion
Among this year’s highlights, we are delighted to welcome Lynn Nwokorie, Film Relationship Manager at the British Council, to ANIMASYROS 2026.
Lynn will participate in the panel discussion Empowering Your Local Industry: Distribution, where she will share insights into the British Council’s work in supporting the international distribution and promotion of short films, as well as the opportunities available to emerging animation talent.
Drawing on her extensive experience in film development, partnerships and distribution, Lynn will also join the ANIMASYROS Pitching Forum Jury, bringing her international perspective to the evaluation of new animation projects.
The event will be held on 24 September 2026 from 16.00–17.00 (full details to be announced soon).
Royal College of Art, London (RCA) Panel Discussion
As part of the Agora programme, ANIMASYROS 2026 will host a dedicated panel discussion by the Royal College of Art (RCA), exploring animation education, emerging talent and pathways into the creative industries.
The discussion will feature Dr Samantha Moore, Head of the MA Animation programme at RCA, and Katerina Athanasopoulou, Research Tutor on the same programme. They will be joined by RCA alumna, Honorary Doctor and pioneering experimental animator Vera Neubauer, who will also participate as a member of the International Jury.
Alongside the panel discussion, a special screening programme will showcase graduate films from the RCA Animation programme, featuring work by alumni from across different years. Spanning the programme’s history from its inception to the present day, the selection highlights the diverse artistic approaches, techniques and creative voices that have shaped the RCA animation community.
