Since 2020, the CoMuseum International Conference has served museums and cultural professionals as both a physical as well as a digital platform.

Its key long-term goal is to share the best ideas and practices from around the world, highlight contemporary challenges, place museums in the centre of society and create a global network of professionals who will co-design a ‘culture-edge’ future for our societies.

This year’s CoMuseum conference is taking place from 2 to 4 December 2026 in a hybrid format:

  • face-to-face in Athens and Thessaloniki
  • via live streaming

As always, the conference will feature top international experts from museums and cultural institutions in Greece, the UK and beyond, who will share insights and ideas on the present and future of museums.

The CoMuseum International Conference is the core activity of the British Council’s Museums Revisited capacity building programme for the museum sector in Europe that aims to explore the role of museums in society and the interconnections with civil society and the wider cultural sector.

15th CoMuseum International Conference: CoMuseum Futures

How can museums help society navigate uncertainty, imagine alternatives, and shape more inclusive futures?

CoMuseum Futures explores the role of museums and cultural institutions in engaging with the future through culture. At a time when conversations about the future are increasingly driven by technology and crisis, the conference proposes a different perspective—one that places culture at the centre of how we understand change, create knowledge, and imagine what comes next. Moving beyond the question of the future of museums, CoMuseum Futures asks how museums themselves can become infrastructures for futures literacy: trusted public spaces where ideas can be tested, diverse voices can meet, and societies can think together about the future.

Over three days, the conference will bring together museum professionals, artists, researchers, educators, policymakers, community leaders, and future thinkers from around the world.

Partnerships and support

The conference is organised by the British Council and the Benaki Museum, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, ICOM Greece and the Norwegian Embassy under the auspices of Ministry of Culture.
