The Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival (AΑGFF) is back after an absence of four years. The 9th edition of the festival will take place from 18 to 28 October 2018 at the Greek Film Archive and aims to showcase the freshest and most pioneering of today’s world cinema.
As part of the programme, we are proud to announce a retrospective tribute to Chinese-British filmmaker Xiaolu Guo, who will be visiting Athens from 24 to 27 October to deliver a Masterclass at the Greek Film Archive.
Xiaolu Guo is an acclaimed Chinese-British novelist, filmmaker and feminist, whose books have been translated into over 28 languages, and whose film She, a Chinese (2009) won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2009. She is one of the most successful Chinese writers currently publishing in the UK. Most recently her memoir Nine Continents: A Memoir In and Out of China won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2017 and in 2013 she was named as one of the Best of Young British Novelists by Granta magazine.
Masterclass
Xiaolu Guo will deliver a two-hour masterclass on Documentary novels on filming and writing. Admission is free.
