Speaking at the ceremony, the British Ambassador HE Kate Smith CMG said: ‘The British Council Alumni Awards is an institution which also enormously contributes to the support and promotion of British university education – across the world. The Awards were launched for the first time in Greece in 2017 and have gone from strength to strength. The whole competition process and event celebrating the winners are a fantastic showcase for the achievement and indeed αριστεία of Greek graduates of British universities. And the experience of being a member of the selection panel has revealed to me, in a way I couldn’t imagine before, the variety of different studies undertaken and walks of life which Greek alumni have entered and shone in. Be it in the public sector, science and research, businesses of many different kinds, both big and small, the non-state and NGO and voluntary sector, British graduates in Greece are leading, innovating, acting as role models for younger colleagues, contributing to their communities and wider society. They are making a difference. And what the process shows me too is how the quality, standards, ethos and values of British education and its institutions have inspired and contributed to that success. And how that is not forgotten.’
Anastasia Andritsou, Director British Council Greece, said: ‘I am delighted that we are hosting the Study UK Alumni Awards in Greece for the third consecutive year. All the finalists and winners join a global community, an exciting network of like-minded individuals that will help maintain close relations between Greece and the UK by sharing values and contributing to greater prosperity for the societies and economy of both countries.’
Maria Tsakali, Head Education and Society, British Council Greece, said: ‘The third year of the Study UK Alumni Awards has come to a successful end and once again the Awards have showcased the successes of Greek people who, in difficult times, have excelled in their fields, attesting to the impact of a UK education on their achievements. The Awards aim, not only to celebrate these successes, but to underpin the profoundly strong connections of the Greek people with the UK, especially in education.’
