Speaking at the ceremony, the British Ambassador HE Matthew Lodge said: ‘I have the great pleasure of meeting Greeks, British University alumni, every day. They are using their UK university education to deliver economic success and social impact through their work by making a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries. The Study UK Alumni Awards recognise exactly that: their outstanding talent and contribution. For the past seven years, we have been receiving an excellent field of applications and this year was no exception. In fact, this year we have received a record number of applications – the highest globally. This is evidence of the strong potential of the UK alumni community in Greece. We are looking forward to engaging further with this and previous’ years talented individuals to continue showcasing the value of their education and their inspiring journeys.’
Anastasia Andritsou, Director British Council Greece, said: ‘I am delighted that we are hosting the Study UK Alumni Awards in Greece for the seventh consecutive year. Today we are celebrating the success of a dynamic and vibrant network with more than 300,000 members in Greece. UK alumni make us proud through their talent, professionalism and the wealth of experience and skills that they bring back to their communities. The Study UK Alumni Awards, along with Alumni UK, our new global network of people from around the world who have studied in the UK, demonstrate our appreciation for the invaluable contribution of alumni to the strengthening of cultural relations between Greece and the UK, and the international promotion of a UK education.’
Maria Tsakali, Head Education, British Council Greece, said: ‘Another year of the awards was successfully completed, once again highlighting and honouring UK higher education graduates from Greece who excel in their fields and have linked their progress and success with their British education. The awards ceremony was an emotional evening that brought together participants from previous years and the wider vibrant alumni community, including British universities and alumni associations actively operating in Greece. This year’s ceremony had a special significance as – beyond the brilliant stories of the awardees – we presented our new global initiative of an international digital platform that provides information, training and networking opportunities to UK graduates from all over the world. Our warmest congratulations to the Alumni Awards finalists and winners of 2023 in Greece. Together with the British Embassy and supporting organisations, we continue the effort to strengthen and showcase the Greek UK alumni network, which is considered among the largest in the world.’
