The British Ambassador HE Kate Smith CMG, said ‘UK education continues to inspire generations of young people – both for its excellence and its social contribution. UK University graduates create their own successful career path globally in many different areas; they have been honoured with Nobel prize awards, they have won Oscars, they are winners of Olympic Gold medals, have become political leaders. Many other graduates, although less well known, contribute daily to their area of expertise as well as to their communities with the knowledge and experience gained from the time spent at the UK educational institutions they attended and the ties they forged during their studies.’
Tony Buckby, Director British Council Greece, said ‘I am delighted that we are hosting the Study UK Alumni Awards in Greece for the second consecutive year. The awards are all about honouring the success of individuals whose achievements here in Greece have been, in some measure, influenced by their experience of studying at a UK university. UK Higher Education Institutions have been welcoming Greek students to their courses over a period of many years, leading to the really impressive number of more than 300,000 UK university alumni in Greece. Many of these alumni retain links with their universities and continue to share their experiences as active members of UK alumni associations. We now have a great way of recognising some of those exceptional achievements.’
